CV is short for Curriculum Vitae1. The Latin meaning is “the course of one’s life”. On this page, I’ll list out notable achievements – academic, formal, informal – that are familiar to modern readers. I lay out materials in a portfolio method2 . It makes more sense as a personalised expression of my life’s work.

- During the Middle Ages, skilled artisans provided potential employers with portfolios showcasing their work. In the Renaissance, Leonardo da Vinci created what can be considered a forerunner to the current CV when he wrote a letter to the duke of Milan detailing his expertise while offering his services as an artist. Similarly, surveyor and cartographer Ralph Agas described his skills in pamphlets that he distributed in Elizabethan England with the hope of alluring clients. More recently, the practice of writing a good “brief” was expounded upon by Napoleon Hill in 1937 in his book devoted to helping readers achieve success, Think and Grow Rich. Source ↩︎
